Fold only
Origami Necktie
A tapered tie with a folded pleat forming its knot. Make a small paper model with measured folds and a complete illustrated guide.
Preparation + 12 numbered steps
Materials
6-inch square · 6 × 6 inches
One 6 × 6-inch square (15.24 × 15.24 cm) of thin paper, a ruler and a pencil. Contrasting paper sides help show hems. No scissors or glue.

Help · controls & diagram
Play or drag the progress slider to watch a fold from 0% to 100%. Use the view buttons or drag the diagram to look from another angle.
Blue and gold identify the original left and right halves, not the literal paper colors. Darker shades show the reverse. Orange highlights the moving packet and its hinge.
With the diagram focused: Space plays or pauses, ←/→ change steps, and Home resets.
Every step, at a glance
Compare your paper with each diagram after completing the action. Blue and gold identify the original left and right halves, not the literal paper colors. Darker shades show the reverse. Orange highlights the moving packet and its hinge.

Prepare the diamond
Set a point at the top, with the intended tie color facing down.
Layers: One square.
Check: The top and bottom points align.
Explore this step ↑STEP 1 · Linked Origami Club diagram; measured adaptation
Crease the vertical center
Bring the right point across to the left point and crease.
Layers: Move the entire right half.
Check: The side edges meet.

Open the sheet
Open the diamond fully.
Layers: Open the same half.
Check: The center crease remains.
Explore this step ↑STEP 3 · Linked Origami Club diagram; measured adaptation
Make the right kite fold
Bring the upper right sloping edge onto the vertical center.
Layers: Move the right corner.
Check: The long edge meets the center.

Make the left kite fold
Bring the upper left sloping edge onto the same center line.
Layers: Move the left corner.
Check: The two edges meet.
Explore this step ↑STEP 5 · Linked Origami Club diagram; measured adaptation
Turn the kite over
Turn the whole kite from side to side.
Layers: Carry all layers together.
Check: The long point remains at the top.
Explore this step ↑STEP 6 · Linked Origami Club diagram; measured adaptation
Lower the top point
Mark a horizontal line 2.33 inches below the top point. Fold the complete point down.
Layers: Carry every layer above the mark.
Check: The point lands slightly below the widest part.

Fold the tip back upward
On the lowered flap, fold the tip up along a line 0.76 inches above the original widest part.
Layers: Move only the lowered point packet.
Check: The tip rises just beyond the upper edge.

Raise the knot
Fold the lower part of the pleat up along a horizontal line 1.57 inches above the original widest part.
Layers: Move only the top-point packet, including its returned tip.
Check: A short trapezoid projects above the body.
Explore this step ↑STEP 9 · Linked Origami Club diagram; measured adaptation
Turn to narrow the body
Turn the entire model over.
Layers: Keep the pleated knot together.
Check: The old kite flaps are visible again.

Narrow the right side
Mark the crease from a point 0.40 inches right of center at the knot base to a point 0.80 inches right of center at the widest part. Fold the outer right packet in. Extend the crease down to the paper edge.
Layers: Carry all layers to the right of this line.
Check: The lower tie keeps a broad pointed end.
Explore this step ↑STEP 11 · Linked Origami Club diagram; measured adaptation
Narrow the left side
Repeat using matching marks left of center.
Layers: Carry the complete left packet.
Check: Both long sides taper toward the knot.
Explore this step ↑STEP 12 · Linked Origami Club diagram; measured adaptation
Show the necktie
Turn the complete tie over and press it flat.
Layers: Turn every layer.
Check: The knot sits above the long pointed tie.

Adaptation: Follows the kite, turned top pleat, narrowed sides and final turn of the linked Necktie diagram. Full center creases replace pinch marks. The free knot folds have explicit measured positions; the reference’s small preliminary corner guide creases are omitted. This is a flat card decoration, not a functional tie.

Accuracy notes
Real-paper follow-along and paper weight have not been tested. Diagrams illustrate the sequence, not paper thickness, contact, collisions or exact layer visibility. One uncut square is carried through rigid-axis folds with persistent material coordinates. Shaping dimensions are authored landmarks rather than measurements claimed from the reference. Zero-thickness teaching geometry does not certify paper contact or physical foldability. Real-paper folding and wearable fit have not been tested.
