Fold only
Origami Fox Face

PREPARATION · Apex-down fox face
Prepare the square
Place the square as a diamond with a corner at the top. Start with the intended face color down.
Layers: One uncut sheet.
Check: Left and right corners are level and all four sides are equal.

Bring the bottom corner up
Lift the bottom corner onto the top corner. Align both sloping sides, then crease the long horizontal base.
Layers: Move the whole lower half.
Check: A broad triangle has two free tips together at the top.

Mark the middle
Fold the right base corner onto the left corner. Press the fold from the top point to the middle of the base.
Layers: Carry both right-hand layers together.
Check: The base corners meet exactly.

Open the center fold
Undo only the last fold and lay the broad triangle flat again.
Layers: Return the entire right packet to its starting side.
Check: The first triangle stays closed; a vertical crease marks its center.

Fold the whole top point down
Lift both free top tips together and bring them to the base midpoint. Press the horizontal hinge halfway between the old top and the base.
Layers: Both apex layers move, not just the visible front flap. Leave the bottom strip and outer corners flat.
Check: A down-pointing central triangle lies on a wide trapezoid. Its tip touches the base midpoint.

Raise the right ear
Lift the right outer corner and fold its horizontal base edge onto the vertical center line. The hinge runs from the base midpoint to the right end of the new top edge.
Layers: Move both layers of the outer right wing. Keep the central down-pointing triangle flat and still.
Check: The right corner now points straight up above the midpoint. Its inner edge follows the center line.

Raise the left ear
Mirror the fold on the left: bring the left base edge onto the center line and press flat.
Layers: Move both outer left layers; keep the central flap and completed right ear still.
Check: The two ear tips meet at the top. A center seam divides the diamond; do not spread the ears apart.

Turn the face over
Pick up the entire packet and turn it over from side to side. Keep the pointed ears at the top. The folding is complete.
Layers: Turn every layer together without opening an ear or lifting the central flap separately.
Check: A horizontal shoulder separates the upper ears from the exposed downward snout.

Add optional features
If you want a face, draw two small eyes on the lower triangle and a nose near its bottom tip. You can leave the paper undecorated.
Layers: Ink sits on the front snout only; no extra paper or folds.
Check: Your flat fox face is finished, with touching ear tips above the pointed snout.

Adaptation: Follows the Origami-Instructions apex-down, edge-to-center face: the whole two-layer top point folds to the base midpoint before either ear moves. Both ear tips meet on the center line; the central down-folded flap stays still. OrigamiOK corroborates the apex-down sequence but permits splayed ear angles; those angles are not used here. Uses an exact 6-inch square, separates the center fold and reopening, and adds original optional pen features after turning the entire packet. This is a flat face, not a standing full fox or a finger puppet.

Accuracy notes
Real-paper follow-along and paper weight have not been tested. Diagrams illustrate the sequence, not paper thickness, contact, collisions or exact layer visibility. One 36-square-inch sheet, rigid hinges, both original layers in the apex and ears, and continuous original-material seams. Zero-thickness teaching geometry; thickness and contact are not simulated. Real-paper folding has not been tested.
