Fold only
Flat Origami Sweet Corn
Make a flat ear of sweet corn from one square. Fold a narrow kite, peel back two front flaps into husks, then shape the cob and add optional pen lines for kernels.
Preparation + 13 numbered steps
Materials
6-inch square · 6 × 6 inches
One 6 × 6-inch square (15.24 × 15.24 cm) of thin origami paper. A yellow front and green reverse work well; plain paper is fine too. Ruler and pencil for shaping marks; optional pen for kernel lines. No scissors or glue.

Blue and gold identify the original left and right halves, not the literal colors of your paper. Darker shades show the reverse. Orange outlines mark moving paper and its hinge. The final dark grid is optional ink, not extra folds.

PREPARATION · Origami Club sweet corn · original measured adaptation
Prepare the diamond
Place the square with one point up and the intended cob color facing you. The reverse will become the two husks.
Layers: One flat uncut square.
Check: The top and bottom points line up vertically.

Crease the center
Bring the right point over to the left point and press the vertical diagonal.
Layers: Fold the whole right half.
Check: The side points coincide.

Open the diamond
Return the right half fully to the table.
Layers: Open the same half.
Check: A straight vertical center crease remains.

Fold the right lower edge in
Bring the lower right sloping edge onto the center crease. Keep the bottom point fixed.
Layers: Move the complete right corner flap.
Check: Its old lower edge rests on the center line.

Fold the left lower edge in
Match the lower left sloping edge to the same center crease.
Layers: Move the left corner flap; leave the right flap flat.
Check: The two front flaps meet along the center and have level upper edges.

Peel the right husk outward
On the center seam, mark a point 2.49 inches below the meeting of the two upper flap edges. Fold the right front flap outward and down on the 45-degree line joining this mark to the outer right shoulder.
Layers: Move only the right front kite flap, leaving the cob backing still.
Check: The released corner reaches the lower end of a short vertical edge on the right.

Peel the left husk outward
Repeat from the same center mark to the outer left shoulder.
Layers: Move only the left front kite flap.
Check: A plain diamond-shaped cob is visible above the two lowered flaps.

Turn the right husk tip up
Find the midpoint of the short outer right vertical edge. Crease from that midpoint to the lower point of the plain central diamond, and bring the lower right flap corner up and inward.
Layers: Fold only the peeled right flap. Do not carry the plain cob behind it.
Check: A small reverse-colored triangular tip rises beside the cob.

Turn the left husk tip up
Make the matching fold through the midpoint of the short left vertical edge and the lower point of the plain central diamond.
Layers: Move only the peeled left flap.
Check: Both husk tips frame the lower part of the cob.

Narrow the right side behind
On the upper right cob edge, measure 1.73 inches down from the top point. On the outer lower right sloping edge, measure 4.28 inches up from the bottom point. Fold the whole side backward on the line joining those marks.
Layers: Carry every layer beyond the line, including the little husk tip, to the back.
Check: The right cob edge is tall and almost vertical; a slim husk remains visible below.

Narrow the left side behind
Mark the same distances on the left edges and fold the complete left side behind.
Layers: Carry the full left packet, including its returned husk tip.
Check: The two tall cob edges and tapered husks match.

Flatten the bottom point
Measure 0.75 inches up the center seam from the bottom tip. Fold that tip backward on a horizontal line through the mark.
Layers: Move all layers in the little bottom triangle.
Check: The long husks now end in a short flat base.
Explore this step ↑STEP 12 · Origami Club sweet corn · original measured adaptation
Soften the cob top
Mark a point 0.35 inches down the center crease from the top tip. Fold the small top triangle behind on a horizontal line through that mark.
Layers: Move the top corner to the back, keeping the front cob plain.
Check: A short flat top joins two sloping shoulders above the long cob.

Add optional kernel lines
Leave the model plain, or draw a few vertical lines and short cross-lines inside the exposed cob. Keep the two husks free of the grid. Press the completed corn flat for display.
Layers: No paper moves in this step. The dark grid shown is optional pen ink.
Check: The tall cob, two folded husks and flat base are complete.

Source drawings, animation and wording are not reproduced. These English instructions, geometry, diagrams and optional kernel grid are original.
Adaptation: Follows the eight-panel flat corn sequence, splitting paired folds into separate actions. The source has no numerical shaping landmarks: this version fixes the peeled-flap hinges at 45 degrees, the return hinges through the outer-edge midpoints, and measured backward side/tip folds on a 6-inch square. The cob and two attached husks remain one uncut sheet. The final optional grid is pen decoration, not folded kernels. This is a flat display, not a rounded cob or a separate leaf assembly.
